Friday Five by Five : On my mind [Nov. 21st, 2008|04:00 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

1. There has been a whole slew of killer, deep, wonderful, occasionally heart-wrenching posts on the truths and oft-dashed expectations of being a published writer.  It's extending to us unpublished-but-been-working-for-a-while sort, too, and I'd love to round up a comprehensive list of the posts.  I think they started (even if they weren't necessarily prompted) with [info]fabulousfrock 's What To Expect When You're No Longer Expecting...A Book Deal, That Is.  [info]carriejones , [info]lisa_schroeder , [info]pixiechick_sw , [info]tlcadence  and [info]lalam have posted their thoughts on the struggles, and a few other people I think, too.  I've mostly identified with [info]lalam :

But what if the second and third and 10th draft sucks too.  What if I'm living some pipe dream and I cannot be a writer because my thoughts can't seem to come together coherently.

Anyway, these posts have been really insightful.  So if you know of any more, please, please, please toss a link up in the comments.

2.  There's been a wave of awesome news rocking the LJ pool lately!  First, congrats to Judy Blundell for winning the National Book Award for What I Saw and How I Lied.  Which I MUST read.

Also, [info]debg :

Sold, to Regina Griffin at Egmont, Haunted Ballads and JP Kinkaid Chronicles author Deborah Grabien's Dark in the Park, a YA urban fantasy novel narrated by an abandoned cat struggling to form alliances and survive an incursion of coyotes in Golden Gate Park. World English rights with a second book option, Fall 2010, in a deal that makes the author do a happy little dance. By Kate McKean at Howard Morhaim Literary.

Also, [info]carriejones !  NEED as an audiobook!  W00T!

Also, [info]lisa_schroeder  sold IT'S RAINING CUPCAKES to SImon & Schuster!  AWESOME!  (PW announcement to come).

And belatedly, big HUZZAH to watchmebe for selling SISTERS RED, which I'm totally pumped for:

Jackson Pearce’s second novel, SISTERS RED, a modernization of Little Red Riding Hood meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to Jill Dembowski and Andrea Spooner at Little, Brown, in a pre-empt, in a two-book deal, by Jenoyne Adams at Bliss Literary Agency (world). jadams@blissliterary.com

3.  It keeps snowing.  It's not even Thanksgiving.  Come on.

4.  I haven't left the house since we got back from Indiana.  I'm getting a little stir crazy.  But I'm still sick.  I don't know if I'll be able to make it to FIDDLER, and it closes tomorrow.  AND I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN TWILIGHT FANGIRL WHIIIIIIINE.

5.  I have a cover article that needs drafting tomorrow.  I don't know if I'll have the presence of mind to do it, though.  :-(

Huzzah! [Aug. 12th, 2008|05:51 pm]

First, [info]pixiechick_sw has absolutely wonderful news.   Rally around our writer-bud and go congratulate her.  NOW!  And then come back and read the rest of this.

So, my brain was feeling pretty fried all day, so I took a nap when Miss V did.  I dreamed a bunch of my LJ flister writing buds were all sitting around on the floor, playing poker.  Nobody was losing, but one by one, people were called away.  Because they were getting rep-offers.

Now, I'm not one to have prophetic dreams -- that's my husband, and it's freaky, the kind of dreams he has.  But the dream confirmed, as much as it could, a thing I've been feeling for a week or so.

That thing?

[info]sboman, dear heart, you are next.  Or extremely close to next.

For the rest of us who are still fighting the uphill battle with little to no view of a crest, keep plugging.  We're getting there.
