Read-A-Thon: I went to bed. [Oct. 25th, 2009|07:18 am]
[Tags|]

So...life got in the way of me finishing even one book.  But it was happy life stuff, like naming all the animals V and I saw at the zoo (for the sixth time) and  introducing Boy to GLEE.  He will watch it with me, and, well, my work here is done.

Maybe one of these Octobers I'll have the whole weekend void of stuff.  As it stands, today I have nine billion things to do.  But I'm gonna read for a bit this AM and then head out into the world.

Congrats to all you Read-A-Thonners who made it!

Read-A-Thon! Who Keeps You Company Mini-Challenge [Oct. 24th, 2009|04:15 pm]
[Tags|]

Who keeps you company while you read?

Right now, Miss V is asleep and Boy is at work, so I'm curled up with my cozy red thermal blanket and Sergei Rachmaninov.  I chose Rachmaninov because I'm reading about Russia.  It seemed fitting.  ;-)

Read-A-Thon! Eat to Read Mini-Challenge [Oct. 24th, 2009|02:44 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

I am home from SC, I have run errands, I have unpacked, I have had lunch, I have my jammies on, and now I'm going to get as much of the Read-A-Thon in as I can today.  Already my eyes are tired, and I've only just sat down!

Eat to Read Mini-Challenge Entry
I've got a bottle of water and a glass of Haus cider beside me for my first participating hour.  At the ready: a full supply of cookies, popcorn, coffee, cocoa, chips, and other, more substantial food, like salad and sandwich stuff for later.

But specifically, I'm looking forward to munching on Spekulatius cookies and drinking a nice cup of Raven's Brew coffee (thank you, [info]alaskanmermaid ).  And for a special treat later (if I come near finishing even ONE book): cream soda.

I love read-a-thons.  Best calorie dump evar!

Read-a-Thon - Hour 13 Challenge [Apr. 18th, 2009|08:19 pm]
[Tags|]

1. What are you reading right now?   Finishing off Inkdeath.

2. How many books have you read so far?  Just one!

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?  The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?  My husband was awesome to watch my daughter as much as he could.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?  Yes.  And poorly.  :-D  I like reading and writing.  I don't like for those times to be interrupted.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?  How little I've read!

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?  Actually, no.  You guys do a great job.

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?  The only things that went awry are the things I can't change, so...

9. Are you getting tired yet?  Not really.  Just hungry!

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?  Don't compete with yourself!

Read-a-Thon - Hour 11 [Apr. 18th, 2009|06:11 pm]
[Tags|]

Write a letter to the protagonist of one of the books you’re reading. The letter can be about anything–why you like him or her, why you don’t like him or her, things you’ve learned from him or her.

Reading: The Shack by William P. Young

Dear Mackenzie,
I have so much I want to say.  So many ways I want to encourage you.  So many things I want to discourage you from.  But you've been lectured--albeit in a very gentle way--enough today.  So I'll keep it concise:

I know you want to understand.  I know you want to make sense of it.  The truth has already been given to you.  Whatever you've heard, whatever you hear, you must weigh it against the truth that was given to you a very long time ago.

Be careful.  You're on dangerous ground.  It's firm in some places, but there's quicksand, too.

Hoping for the best,
-Eliza

I was hoping to have this book done in 15 minutes.  I'm not halfway done.

I fail at everything these days!

Cheerleaders, you are amazing!  But I have to go now.

Such was the 'thon.  Maybe I'll get a little more in later.

Read-a-Thon - Hour 1 Challenge [Apr. 18th, 2009|08:15 am]

Where are you reading from today?

Home, and then meeting my bestie sometime this afternoon for coffee and reading.

3 facts about me …

There are only 2 non-historical books on my adult TBR shelf.  I do like historicals!
My MG/YA TBR shelf is as large as my adult shelf.  I do like YA!
I'm hoping to read 100 books this year, but I am behind!  I do like to read!

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

Two full books, but if I can squeeze in The Baron's Gloves or something else, that'd be awesome!

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

Starting with The Shack by William P. Young
Hoping to finish my Inkdeath audiobook between breaks (exercise, driving, housework)
Will definitely read The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan, too!
I want to finish The Shack by noon. I'd like to have all my reading done by 6pm, because I have some other work I have to do today.  When I get home, I might read some more, though.  :-D  I have to work tomorrow, so I know I can't stay up the whole time.  For sad!

If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, Any advice for people doing this for the first time?

I've participated in two read-a-thons, and I think setting little goals rocks.  50 pages, then take a 10-minute  break.  Eat lots of light foods.  Drink lots of water.  Get daddy to watch babykid s much as he can!  Streeeeeetttttch!
