Grapemo, Vincent, and the Doctor [Jan. 23rd, 2011|09:57 am]
Literary Fangirl

My completed ms is currently out of my hands, and I've taken the week off to not do much of anything writing-wise.

That means now, five days later, I'm antsy and cabin fevered and walking around like I NEED TO BE WORKING ON SOMETHING. So when Jeannine Garsee put up a call for Grapemo participants, I was like UM YES PLS.

Feb 1-28th, I'll be working to meet these goals:

  • Query letter for current ms
  • Reread my NaNo novel
  • Start revision notes for NaNo novel
  • Blog 1x a week.

It's no Big Writing Thing, no word count--but it's stuff that needs to happen. The pre-writing.

As for Vincent and the Doctor?

I'm sticking it up there as one of the best episodes of TV evar. Other high-ranking eps of TV for me:

Finale of LIFE

FIREFLY, "Out of Gas"

The thing about AMAZING finales is that on their own, they don't mean much. But I think you can tell if a story's been told well when, in the last two minutes of a show's life, you're holding your breath and wondering, "How can this ever be okay?"

Because by then you know the show's been canceled, or it's over.

And you know you're not going to be satisfied, you just KNOW it.

And then the writers pull out the magic. And you get the show for the first time.

And you know you're gonna watch the whole show over and over.

And I have. I'm adding LIFE to my Netflix queue again, dudes.

"Out of Gas" is definitely one of my top episodes for any series, ever. I'd liked the show well enough up to that point--but only liked it. And then, BAM.

I've got some Buffy on my "top episodes" list, too. Hard to choose between "Once More With Feeling" and "Hush."

Is Life the series with Damian Lewis?

There were some epic Buffy eps, especially those. Loved "Tabula Rasa" too. James Marsters took me by the heart with Tortured!Spike and the monologue, though.

Yes! Loved LIFE so much.

Also, not on the list, the finale of STUDIO 60.

I thought Damian Lewis was great in Band of Brothers and always meant to check out Life. So I'm glad to hear it's good!

Ooh, you're doing Grapemo, too? Fun! Good luck with all your goals. :)

I love those episodes of BUFFY and WONDERFALLS you mentioned. And I couldn't agree more about amazing finales. Most shows I watch get canceled too soon to have a proper one, but when those true finales happen...and happen well...it's just so great to see how everything wraps up. My all-time favorite finale is the one for POINT PLEASANT. That show got canceled early, but despite being only 13 episodes long, the writers managed to produce an epic series finale that made it feel like this was how they wanted to end the series the whole time. The characters are so different from the pilot, and I'm still haunted by how everything turned out (in a good way).

Um...I'm babbling. Time to squee about Grapemo again, yes? Yes! *squee*

I am NOT KIDDING when I say this is the SECOND TIME TODAY Point Pleasant has come up.

I suppose I need to snag the series & watch, huh?

Hah, really? I'm surprised! I never seem to be able to find anybody who has even HEARD of POINT PLEASANT. You must definitely give the show a watch!
